Management Team Mr. Guohua Sun, CEO Mr. Sun is age 39 and has served as the General Manager of Canon Investment Holdings Limited and Guangdong Yintong Investment Holdings Group Co., Ltd. from April 2005 to present. Currently, Mr. Sun serves as a director of Zhuhai YinLong Energy Company Ltd., as an executive of Zhuhai Yintong Energy Company Ltd. and in management positions with other entities under common control with the Company’s majority shareholder, Energy Storage (China), Ltd (collectively, the “Zhuhai Affiliate Group”). Mr. Sun has been serving as a director of the Company since 2011 and served as Interim Chief Executive Officer of the Company from March 2014 to August 2014. Mr. Sun served as General Manager of Beijing Yinda Transportation Investment Limited from 2003 to 2005, and prior to that time, as Vice General Manager from 2001 to 2003. Mr. Sun also served as Vice General Manager of Nan-Ming-He Iron Ore Limited from 2001 to 2003. Mr. Sun graduated with a degree in business administration from Handan University and with a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Wales. Thom Reddington, Chief Operating Officer & General Manager Thom Reddington joined Altairnano as Chief Operating Officer & General Manager in May 2014. He brings over 39 years of experience in the automotive industry with global experience in Mexico, China, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia and Europe. Thom was Vice President of Operations and Engineering at Light Engineering, Inc. from August 2011 to April 2014 where he managed the Operations, Engineering, Quality and Procurement in the US and also managed and joint venture in China and established a strategic alliance with Wonder Motor Co. in Fuzhou, China. From August 2009 to October 2013, Thom was President, Program Management Consulting at Redcon LLC. He managed accounts for Redboard Ltd., Dongguan, China, was Account Manager for their automotive sector and Quality Manager for the US Operations. He was Manager, Continuous Process Improvement at Ener1, Inc. from August 2009 to July 2011 implementing an EV bus project in Seoul, Korea. Thom spent most of his career at Delphi Automotive Systems, July 1976 to August 2009. He served multiple functions over the years including Product Line Chief Engineer, Manufacturing Chief Engineer, Advanced Quality Director, Product Line Staff Engineer, Program Manager, Purchasing, Test Engineering and Controls. Thom has a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University; a master’s degree in Business Administration from Anderson University and has done doctorate Business Administration Studies at Anderson University. Karen Werner, Interim CFO Karen Werner is age 58 and has been promoted to Interim CFO. Ms. Werner served as Corporate Senior Assistant Controller of the Company from February 2012 to January 2014. Ms. Werner served as Corporate Controller for Windspire Energy, Inc. during 2011 and as Controller for Winkel Motors, Inc. from January 2008 to February 2011. Ms. Werner brings over 24 years of corporate and global experience in financial and compliance reporting and internal management accounting. Ms. Werner’s experience has come from the renewable energy, manufacturing, financial, automotive, software development, foreign imports, sales, engineering and consulting industries. Ms. Werner has public and private company experience and holds a bachelor of science degree in business administration with honors from the University of Phoenix. Dr. Bruce Sabacky, Senior Director, Technology Bruce joined Altair in late 1999 as Director of Research and Engineering and prior to joining Altair, was Manager of Process Development at BHP’s Center for Minerals Technology. Dr. Sabacky is co-inventor on nine U.S. patents, four of which pertain to Altair’s titanium-based nanomaterial products. He initiated and directed Altair’s Solid Oxide Fuel Cell program, including a two-year program for anode catalyst development with the Dept. of Chemical Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. At BHP, he managed development of a titanium minerals processing technology that later became the core technology for Altair Nanomaterials, Inc. Prior to joining BHP Minerals, he was engineering and development manager at Bandgap Technology Corporation and previously, Senior Process Engineer at AMAX Extractive Research and Development, Inc. Dr. Sabacky has received numerous industry awards, including an R&D 100 Award, and has published articles on electrochemical processing, semiconductor materials processing, and nanomaterials development and processing in a variety of industry journals. He received his Ph.D., Materials Science and Mineral Engineering, from the University of California, Berkeley, along with a M.Sc., Metallurgical Engineering, and a B.Sc., Metallurgical Engineering, from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. Jay Akhave, Senior Director, IP & Technology Jay has been with Altairnano for 9 years. He has worked as a Process Engineering Director and IP Portfolio Director. Process Engineering experience is around LTO process design and powder production. He manages Altairnano’s patent portfolio including prosecution and trade licensing. He is familiar with technical aspects of commercial battery design including competitive technology landscape. Jay is also familiar with powder production processing. He has about 25 years of experience in industrial coatings and nanotechnology area including battery coatings with a background in experimental design, control theory. He is a licensure with the USPTO to prosecute and evaluate patents. Jay has a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering, Masters in Business Administration and a Doctor of Jurisprudence. Brad Hanauer, Sr. Director Engineering Mr. Hanauer has wide experience in the development of large scale lithium battery products for transportation, industrial, and grid-tie applications. After working on the GM EV1 battery pack early in his career, he joined Delphi’s lithium battery group, serving first as a lead product engineer, and then as a program manager. He came to Altairnano in 2005 as part of a team hired to take a promising new battery material, lithium titanate, and create new battery products for demanding energy storage applications. At Altairnano, Mr. Hanauer has led the development of a wide range of products, from a 500 Wh battery system for artillery gun fire control to the 2 MW ALTI-ESS Advantage for large scale utility grid applications. In order to perform the detailed analysis of battery system behavior required to assess performance in these demanding applications, he has led the development of powerful modeling and simulation tools which enable Altairnano to optimize the battery system solution based on the customer’s needs in great detail. He has also led the development of Altairnano’s battery management system, and most recently, led the commercialization of Altairnano’s Gen 4 chemistry. Mr. Hanauer holds a B.A. in Chemistry from the University of Minnesota, and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Mankato State University. Len Sekowski, Sr. Director Operations Len has been with Altairnano since November 2006. He has worked as the Manufacturing Engineer for Altairnano’s battery module manufacturing as well as managing the facility in Anderson. He is the lead engineer for the build, installation and commissioning of the ESS systems. Len previously worked 30 years in the battery manufacturing engineering group at Delphi. He spent 10 years of that time as a Resident Manufacturing Engineer in the Fitzgerald, Georgia battery plant. Mr. Sekowski has experience in building and starting up numerous battery manufacturing facilities including Brazil, Korea and Mexico. Mr. Sekowski holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from University of Pittsburgh. Athena Reed, Sr. Director Sales, Marketing and Strategic Business Development Athena Reed has been with Altairnano as Director of Marketing, Sales and Business Development since March 2015. She was previously with the company from June 2013 to May 2014 as the Proposal and Process Improvement Manager. Athena has 28 years of experience in a various roles including Project Manager for EnerDel, Business Unit Interface for Delco, and Process Manager for Light Engineering. Athena has a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tennessee Technological University and a master’s degree in Business Administration from Anderson University. She has served as an adjunct math instructor for Ivy Tech working with a non-traditional student population. She is committed to expanding Altairnano’s global customer base.
