This product is biomolecule detection LSPR kit based on SPR of gold nanoparticles capable of detecting small amounts of biomolecules. The noble metal nanoparticles show strong absorption bands in the visible and ultraviolet region that does not occur for the bulk metal. The resonance condition is established when the frequency of incident photons matches the natural frequency of surface electrons. This phenomenon is called localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR). In experiments with LSPR a biomolecule binds to the surface of the nanoparticles. The surrounding of the nanoparticles changes from water to biomolecule. The amount of biomolecules attached to the surface of the nanoparticles is estimated based on the shift in the maximum absorption wavelength. Biomolecules selective absorption happens by functionalizing the particles surface and attachment of target biomolecules to these groups. The peak shift associated with a biomolecule depends on its molecular weight. Bigger molecules take more space and thus cause bigger peak shifts.
