Superparamagnetic nanoparticles are Nanomagnetic particles which include the property of superparamagnetism (SPM); a type of magnetism that occurs in small ferromagnetic or ferrimagnetic nanoparticles. SPM is composed of paramagnetic nanoparticles that are coated with various functional chemical groups. They are uniformly sized particles with high magnetic susceptibility.
Its superior stability to disperse minimizes the aggregation of the particles, allowing them to readily accept cross linkers such as nucleic acids, proteins, antibodies and fluorescent proteins from cell lysates.
Given sufficient external magnetic force, high magnetic susceptibility of SPM allows specific separation of these cross-linked products. Therefore, SPM can be used for detection or purification of proteins of interest for experimental or medical use, detection of disease-related substances in diagnostic kits, and biosensors.
