AquaNano is an early-stage company that is developing a new generation of high capacity/selective media and functional polymers for water treatment, environmental/industrial separations and beyond. These new materials are being scaled-up and optimized for commercialization under the trademark of CaptymerTM. The initial focus of AquaNano is on anion separations. Current anion exchange resins have peaked their capacity and performance. The company has developed a suite of anion-selective CaptymerTM media (beads) with exchange capacity equal to 1.5 to 2.0 times those of the corresponding commercial strong-base and weak-base anion resins (SBA and WBA) while meeting industry standards in bead integrity, mechanical strength and particle size distribution. The CaptymerTM material/technology platform is applicable to a broad range of separation problems including the removal of contaminants from groundwater; the recovery of nutrients from wastewater; the extraction of valuable metals from mining solutions and industrial wastewater; and the removal of impurities/undesired side products from processed foods, pharmaceuticals, biofuels and nuclear fuels. AquaNano’s current focus is on groundwater treatment by selective media filtration including removal of chromium VI, perchlorate, nitrate, and arsenic etc.
