FineCell is a chemical company offering micro- and nano-sized cellulosic materials originating from the forest, for manufacturers who want to develop new products with new features, reduce carbon footprints, explore new business opportunities, and attract new customers. FineCell’s technology is based on several years of top research performed at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden, which is a global leader in research of polymers and materials from renewable resources. FineCell’s technology is patented in Sweden, with patents pending across global geographies. FineCell’s technology makes production of micro- and nano-sized cellulosic materials more cost efficient than competing technologies. The resulting two products, microcellulose powder and nanocellulose hydrogel, possess physical and chemical properties differing from competing products, which enable the two products to provide differentiated benefits for their users. FineCell’s target business areas are reinforcements for lightweight composites, ingredients for cosmetics, additives for paints, and consumables for biomedical applications. Currently FineCell is testing its products and negotiating partnerships together with both large corporates and small enterprises from different market segments. FineCell is currently supported by a project funding provided by Vinnova (Sweden’s government agency for innovation). Besides, since Nov 2017 FineCell has been enrolled in EIT InnoEnergy’s (InnoEnergy is the innovation engine for sustainable energy across Europe supported by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology) Highway™ acceleration program.
