XG Sciences, Inc., was formed in 2006 to manufacture and sell commercial quantities of a material that we call xGnP® Graphene Nanoplatelets. The manufacturing processes for this material were pioneered in the Drzal research group in the College of Engineering at Michigan State University. Some of our intellectual property is licensed from Michigan State University. In early 2008, we began manufacturing development of our material in a pilot production facility located in Lansing, MI. In early 2010, we achieved our initial quality goals and released our first line, Grade H, as a commercial product. Additional grades of material were released during the second half of 2010 and early 2011. In 2010, we established a strategic partnership with Hanwha Chemical, part of the large and diverse Hanwha Group in South Korea; Hanwha invested in XG Sciences late in 2010. In early 2011, we also established a strategic partnership with POSCO, a global steel and advanced materials company headquartered in South Korea. POSCO is now an investor in XG Sciences, as well as a licensee of our production processes; the company is also a development and marketing partner. In 2012, XG Sciences expanded its global distribution network to include distributors in Korea, Japan, Taiwan, China, and Europe. With about half of our customers located outside the United States, in nearly 40 different countries around the world, we see ourselves as a global company. We welcomed Samsung Ventures Investment Corporation as a strategic investor in late 2013. In addition, we began a joint development program with Samsung SDI aimed at next-generation batteries for consumer electronics and other devices. XG Sciences deepened our senior management team in 2014. Early in the year, company founder Mike Knox and our Board of Directors appointed Dr. Philip Rose as XG Sciences’ second Chief Executive Officer, positioning XG Sciences for continued leadership in the worldwide graphene industry. XG Sciences is a privately owned corporation registered in Michigan, United States of America
