ReticleNanolayers on the mirror surface because of having a smaller size than the wavelength of the visible light prevents light scattering. The thickness of nanolayer is less than 100 nm. Use of nanocoating causes a 5% reduction in light reflection. It also shows a strong coating adhesion according to the MIL-C-675 standard test.
The light scattered from optical surface irregularities degrades optical performance which includes reduction of optical throughput, image contrast and resolution by producing an image blur. BK7 is a high quality optical glass that is used whenever the additional benefits of fused silica are not required. Since BK7 performs well in all chemical tests, and no additional or special handling is required, costs of manufacturing are reduced. BK7 can be used as reticle which is a net of fine lines or fibers in the eyepiece of a sighting device, such as a telescope, a telescopic sight, a microscope, or the screen of an oscilloscope. Nano-coating technology improves the performance of such mirrors so that covering the mirror surface by nanolayers minimizes light scattering.
