ETD is an electrophoresis principle carrying system that allows its transmittance to be adjusted with electric signals.
Negatively charged black nanoparticles, which are uniformly dispersed in a transparent medium, switches its direction depending on the applied electric field.
For instance, while the ETD-ink is operated between a partially patterned electrode and an unpatterned electrode, if black nanoparticles are forced towards the partially patterned electrodes, the ETD will exhibit a transparent mode, and vice versa.
Most importantly, our ETD manifests significantly lower haziness and better stability in terms of its ability to sustain transparent status with a removed external source than the comparable technologies such as Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal (PDLC) transparent displays.
Simple manipulation of transparency with tremendous ability to hinder and transmit light allows EPM to be applicable for use in products such as ‘smart windows/walls’.
