Manufacturer's Description

"Tamago paint" is a lacquer artist born in Sendai, characterized by glossy coloring and luster.

This name is given because its color changes slightly due to the change of light, its rich color tone resembles the feathers of the bamboo beetle. In addition to its unique texture, "Tamado paint" is also a major feature that it is patented technology originally developed as a national policy.

"Tamado paint" was developed for "export" at the National Institute of Arts and Crafts, established in Sendai in 1932 as the first attempt by the country. At the time, at the leadership, I was exploring the possibilities of new lacquer work by repeatedly contemplating all colors, designs, textures, so as to match overseas tastes. Developed there is a unique technique of spreading "silver powder" and painting transparent lacquer with "dye" added from above. By adopting this idea, it became possible to produce brilliant colors and shines that were not found in conventional lacquerware.

Tohoku craftworks factory got patent licensing of iridescent paint in Showa 14 (1939), after that, it has produced new products one after another for domestic and overseas. In the Showa 60 (1985) year, we received designation of traditional crafts of Miyagi prefecture, and now we receive a large number of orders, such as donation items and souvenirs, and are familiar as Sendai special products.

Nanocomposite coating is applied after finishing the usual iridescent coating. We have been cooperating with the Northeast Center of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) for 2 years to complete the nanocomposite coating which kept the lustrous feel unique to iridescent paint such as paint formulation, painting method, drying process etc.
