JC 700 & 800 series coagulants and flocculants offer a new approach to that “hard to treat” wastewater. The Organo-clay technology works well in high pH and low pH environments, in varying solids loading, and changes in charge demand.
In an oil field production site, JC 800 series was used to break the emulsion and capture solids creating a very tight rag layer that was easy to dewater. At this site, tankers would bring is 100 barrel loads of production water which contained varying amounts of free oil, dirt and drilling debris. Each truckload would vary in type and concentration in the wastewater phase. However, using JC 800, we were able to customize each treatment without affecting the dewatering process. The treated water was clean enough for down hole disposal.
In a coal-fired power plant, the wastewater from the wet scrubber contained varying amounts of flyash that had a high pH. The pH was too high for conventional coagulation with inorganic or organic. However, a specially blended Organo-clay coagulant generated a quick settling floc with excellent clarity. The solids dewatered easily and passed the paint filter test for leachate. A side benefit of using the organo-clay coagulant was binding the flyash to prevent airborne contamination from storing flyash.
In industrial applications where CIP (cleaning in place) occurs, the wastewater stream will vary in concentration. It will contain surfactants, dispersants, chlorinated disinfectant, non-chlorinated disinfectants and suspended solids. The Organo-clay chemical will absorb the surfactants and dispersants to neutralize them. The bulk density of the organo-clay provides a nuclear site for mechanical bridging and floc formation/growth to occur quickly. The results are: 1) excellent clarity, 2) lower BOD/COD, 3) lower TSS, 4) lower FOG and 5) low cost treatment per 1000 gal treated.
